Chicago Musical Hen Party Dance Class SouthamptonGive them the old razzle dazzle. Invented in the room, mind.
Nothing else on the board hands a hen party this much attitude for this little effort. This is the musical, not the American city, and it is built entirely on angles — a flat palm, a rolled shoulder, a hat brim, a look held two counts longer than is strictly polite. Your teacher choreographs their own material live for whoever walks in, in a room we hire off Southbrook Road or on Bedford Place, or at whatever Hampshire house the weekend has commandeered. £185 for ninety minutes and £160 for sixty, plus the venue’s hire cost and nothing further. No dance experience required — the attitude does the heavy lifting.
The good Saturdays go quietly, and early.
Send across the date, a rough headcount and where you are staying. You will get an answer that day: whether the slot is open, what the two rooms charge to hire, and a proper reply to anything else in your message. Theme still undecided? Take the slot as undecided and tell us later.
Sharp shapes, almost no cardio.
Jazz in this idiom is deliberately economical. The work happens in the wrists, the chin and the timing rather than the lungs, which makes it the most flattering hen party dance class on the list for a group that would rather not be visibly out of breath on somebody’s phone. It also photographs unfairly well: every position is a held shape, so footage from a Chicago dance hen party comes out looking like people who have done this before. Among hen party ideas it is the one that reads as sophisticated and still ends in a filmed number.
Low effort, high impact. A hen do dance class built on stillness, angles and timing rather than sprinting about.
Your hats, your gloves. Bowlers, long black gloves and fishnets show up often. Not one item of that comes from us — it is the group’s department entirely.
Chairs are a maybe. If the room has decent chairs your teacher might use them. If it does not, the whole thing works standing up.
Ninety minutes in the cell block.
approximately — the order of play is your teacher’s, made up on the dayArrivals and gossip
Coats off, quick hello, and the immediate relief of learning that nobody is going to be judged by a panel.
Wrists, hips, hat brim
The vocabulary gets drilled slowly: isolations, a shoulder roll, the flat hand. Slow is what makes it look expensive.
The number is drafted
Your teacher writes it in front of you, choosing songs and shapes to fit the room they have actually got. Pencil, not ink.
One take, held stares
A full run with the lighting as low as the venue allows and a phone at the front. Everyone holds the last shape far too long.
each party gets its own version — nothing is traced over the number the last group danced.
The length that lets the slow, precise material bed in before anybody is asked to perform it.
A tighter cut for a packed itinerary, still ending on a held shape and a filmed run.
Hotel function rooms, cottage sitting rooms and one New Forest orangery have all done nicely. There is no room charge at all on this route.
the fee covers the whole party at once — a hen party activity priced by the head would rather spoil the mood.
Two hired spaces, minutes apart.
Neither belongs to us. We hire them by the hour and match the choice to your numbers and to whatever you have booked afterwards, then send the hire cost across in writing with the date so there is nothing to discover later.
rooms we hire, never rooms we own, and the hire figure always travels with the date.
Notes from the jury.
“Twelve of us and not one dancer among them, but the photos look like a press night. Nobody was out of breath either.”
“The teacher gave my sister the whole first eight to herself and she has not stopped talking about it since.”
Chicago, cross-examined.
seven things organisers check before they book ↓
Is this the musical or the American city?+
The musical, every time. The theme is the stage and screen show — the jazz, the attitude, the courtroom sparkle — and the class runs in Southampton, not in Illinois. We mention it because the search results muddle the two constantly and we would rather you were not surprised on the day.
Do we need bowler hats and long black gloves?+
Not remotely, though a lot of groups turn up in them because they photograph beautifully. Whatever the party wears is the party’s own arrangement — we bring a teacher and a speaker and nothing else at all. Black clothes and something with a bit of a heel is the usual compromise, and flat shoes are absolutely fine if heels are not happening.
How is a Chicago class priced for a group?+
Two figures, both flat: £185 buys the ninety-minute session and £160 buys the hour, with the venue’s hire cost quoted separately in writing. That is one price for the whole party rather than a charge each, settled before you confirm anything. Hold it where you are already staying and the venue line drops to nothing.
Can complete beginners really manage this style?+
They manage it better than the confident ones, generally, because the style rewards patience rather than energy. Nothing is fast, everything is counted, and the teacher builds the material at the pace the slowest hand in the room needs. Most parties who book this have not danced since school, if then.
Which of the two hired rooms would we use?+
Whichever suits the numbers: there is one off Southbrook Road near Southampton Central and one on Bedford Place among the bars. Both are a short walk from Westquay and neither is more than a few minutes from wherever dinner has been booked. If the whole weekend is out in the New Forest we will drive to you instead.
Will the routine use All That Jazz?+
Possibly, and it is the obvious candidate — but we do not sell you a setlist in advance. Your teacher arrives with the whole score available and picks what suits the group in front of them, so requests on the day land far better than promises made in an email six weeks earlier.
Can we change theme after the date is booked?+
Yes, free, up to roughly a week beforehand. The booking holds your slot rather than your theme, so if the group chat swings somewhere else entirely you can move to any of the 39 without the fee changing by a penny.
